Ayam Zombie

The Ayam Zombie is an exclusive cross developed at Ruffled Rooster Farm, combining the striking appearance of the Ayam Cemani with improved productivity and unique feather genetics. By pairing Ayam Cemani roosters with carefully selected Easter Egger and Black Sex Link hens, we’ve created birds that capture the dark, mysterious look poultry enthusiasts love while adding hardiness and better laying performance.

The Ayam Zombie is a custom breeding project created by Ruffled Rooster Farm. This cross was designed to produce birds with the dark plumage and eye-catching appearance inspired by the Ayam Cemani while introducing improved egg production, hybrid vigor, and unique feather patterns.

Easter Egger hens contribute the distinctive “zombie” appearance through their varied genetics, while Black Sex Link hens help produce chicks with a cleaner black appearance similar to the Ayam Cemani, along with significantly better egg production.

Appearance & Behavior

Every Ayam Zombie chick develops its own unique look. Most mature into predominantly black birds, while some display subtle silver, blue, or iridescent feathering inherited from their Easter Egger ancestry. They are active, curious, intelligent birds that adapt well to backyard flocks.

Because this is a hybrid cross, no two birds are exactly alike, making each one truly unique.

Hatching Eggs

Our Ayam Zombie hatching eggs are collected daily from healthy breeding groups and carefully packaged for shipment. Because this is a hybrid project, chick coloration and appearance will naturally vary, making every hatch exciting and unique.

We incubate at 99.5°F and approximately 55% humidity. For best hatch rates, allow shipped eggs to rest for 12–24 hours before setting them in the incubator. Check out our hatch guide for more info!

Disclaimer

The Ayam Zombie is an exclusive hybrid developed by Ruffled Rooster Farm by breeding an Ayam Cemani rooster with both Easter Egger hens and Black Sex Link hens.

Because this is a hybrid cross, every chick is genetically unique and will not develop identically.

The Easter Egger hens contribute the distinctive “Zombie” appearance, producing birds with unique feather patterns, colors, and the potential for blue, green, olive, or tinted egg production.

The Black Sex Link hens produce dark Ayam Cemani look-alike offspring while contributing improved laying ability, resulting in hens with significantly higher egg production than a pure Ayam Cemani.

Depending on the genetics inherited, customers may receive birds with:

  • The signature “Zombie” appearance from the Easter Egger cross.
  • Dark Ayam Cemani-inspired birds from the Black Sex Link cross.
  • Variations in feather pattern, comb type, skin pigmentation, leg color, and egg color.

Each Ayam Zombie is one of a kind, and this natural variation is an intentional part of our breeding program. We cannot guarantee the exact appearance, egg color, or traits of any individual chick or hatching egg, but every bird comes from our carefully selected Ayam Cemani rooster paired with Easter Egger and Black Sex Link hens.
